[Commonplace book]. [161-?]

Commonplace book of George Sondes, the Earl of Feversham, containing school notes and verses in Latin as well as several original and unpublished poems. It appears that the volume was perhaps composed in the mid-1610s, as one poem entitled In laudem regis praises the reigning monarch King James, his consort Queen Anne and son Prince Charles (but not Prince Henry, who died in 1612). The volume is written in at least two hands. It is possible that the earlier hand is that of Sir George, and several later inscriptions (one signed Georg Sondes) the work of his son George, but this is only speculative.
